This past weekend I saw the movie Bridesmaids starring Kristin Wigg. It was hysterical and a must see movie for wedding fanatics and those who love a good laugh. It inspired our blog today since sooner or later most of us will have the pleasure of being a bridesmaid. Lucky us! Being a bridesmaid is an honour that often turns into a nightmare with copious amounts of drama. Most of the drama stems from the choosing of the bridesmaid dress. So today we are sharing some of our favourite bridesmaid dress designers and online shops along with some tips to guide you in the right direction when selecting a dress for your bridal party.
Countless times I have heard brides say “you can totally wear this dress again.” Who are we kidding, unless you choose a little black dress for your bridesmaids to wear on your big day, the seafoam green, taffeta, bubble-hem number you chose for them will most likely become a fixture in their closet.
The Enzoani LOVE collection (http://www.lovebyenzoani.com/) is one of my faves. It offers a variety of colours and styles and the dresses often have a fun, flirty detail. In 2010, Enzoani introduced two divisions of the Love collection: Love Evening and Love Shoes. Not only will your bridal party have stunning dresses, but they can have gorgeous shoes to match!
Dessy Group (http://www.dessy.com/) is a fantastic website to shop for bridesmaid dresses. It allows you to search by colour, length, silhouette, and designer. What could be better than that? They feature such designers as Alfred Sung, Lela Rose and their very own Dessy collection.
BHLDN (http://www.bhldn.com/) is becoming one of my new favourite sites to shop for dresses. This collection from Anthropologie is true to its unique, vintage style. Not to mention the accessories are amazing! Some of the dresses are on the pricey side, but so worth it!
Here are some things to think about when selecting a dress for your bridal party:
- Pick a style that isn’t a fad. You don’t want to look back on your wedding photos and have regrets.
- Think variety; after all it is the spice of life! Choose a colour and designer and allow your bridesmaids to pick the style that best suits their body type; with your stamp of approval of course!
- Consider the cost. Just because it is your big day, doesn’t mean your bridesmaids want to break the bank. If you are asking your friends to spend a hefty amount on attire, consider pitching in and alleviating some of the expense. This will eliminate them talking smack about you behind your back 🙂
The girls of Seven Dollar Pants (http://sevendollarpants.com/) have made a tradition of hosting an ugly dress party year after year. So if all fails and you end up with some ugly bridesmaid dresses in your closet, host an ugly dress party of your own and wear that gown with pride.
